Fireplace
accessories help to keep you
fireplace clean, safe, and cozy.
To start with, every
fireplace should have a set of
fireplace tools, which should always
contain a small shovel and a brush.
These tools will help you
sweep and scoop out the ashes.
However, make sure that you
dispose of them in a metal
container—never place them in a
paper bag. Ashes can stay hot for several hours once the fire has gone
out.
A
good quality fireplace tool set
should have the following four basic
tools:
Brush
or small broom—this will help you
sweep ashes in a pile so that you
can easily clean out the hearth.
Shovel—to
scoop the ashes or coals into a coal
caddy.
Rack—to
hold the brush, shovel, tongs and
poker.
Poker
and Tongs—These are so that you
can reposition hot logs, and
maintain the fire.
Other
tools you may want to consider are:
Coal
Caddy—to place ashes or coals,
once they have been removed from the
fireplace hearth.
Wood
Caddy—to carry logs
Log
Rack—so that you can keep a few
logs on hand and you can avoid
having to make so many trips outside
for more logs.
